Hello,
My name is Aisling Mc Donnell and I am just finishing my third year of the Fashion Design BA course in Limerick School of Art and Design, Limerick Institute of Technology, Ireland. I am currently in London working as a fashion intern for Bora Aksu . I really love the work and getting to experience the fashion world first hand. . I will be here working full time with Bora Aksu until Fashion week in September and then will return home to finish my final year in The Limerick School of Art and Design. I have created this website to showcase the portfolio of work I will be producing throughout the year.
This year the focus is on projects that allow us to discover our own particular creative direction and area's of interest. We study Fashion Design, Pattern Drafting, Knitwear Construction and Design Software. Work Placement is a major feature for us which takes place at the begining of April and can vary in lenght between 3-5 months
My general style is creative and unique, I love working with texture and experimenting with different shapes. My aesthetic is inherently feminine, romantic, nostalgic and sculptural. I enjoy making garments that are considered both beautiful and challenging. I am influenced by a number of designers including, Givenchy, Valentino, Eile Saab and Bora Aksu.
In 2010, I was winner of the 'Gillette Venus Spa Breeze Dress of your Dreams' National Competition. The brief from Gillette to Fashion students nationally was to create the 'ultimate movie- premiere dress' - a show stopping dress that enhances every woman's silky smooth legs for the Summer, incorporating the 'Tickled Pink' theme while successfully creating a glamorous unique look.
